Engine Flushing

Engine flushing is a process in which an additive is added into the engine oil just before the engine oil change, and the additive removes the sludge deposits from the engine chamber. This process can increase the life of your engine by reducing the regular wear & tear of internal engine parts.

There are 2 basic types of engine flush
For wet clutch system (For motorcycles)

2       For dry clutch system (For cars)

I’ve seen some people, may be due to lack of knowledge, using car engine flush in a motorcycle, this is very bad for your engine. Using a car flush in a motorcycle will damage the clutch plates of your motorcycle, as it is not meant for wet clutch. It is quite concentrated liquid and hence it erodes the clutch plates rapidly. On the Liqui Moly Engine Flush can it is clearly mentioned " Not suitable for use on motorbikes with wet clutches".

How to flush the engine? DIY

Firstly, warm-up the engine a bit. 2-3 minutes of ideal running would be enough.

Then pour the right amount of engine flushing liquid into the engine oil chamber. You can find the right quantity on the engine flush bottle itself. Like on the 3M two wheeler flush bottle it is written that 50 ml is enough for the motorbikes with engine oil capacities between 0.5 Litres and 1.5 Litres. And Liqui Moly says 200 ml should be used in cars with upto 4 Litres engine oil capacity.
Then start the engine and let it run on ideal speed for 10-15 minutes. Accelerating slightly can make the process fast, but do not over accelerate.

After that stop the engine and change the engine oil normally.

Please note that engine flushing is not necessary in every engine oil change, in fact overdoing might damage your vehicle. It is safe to flush your engine every 40000 km. However some engine flushes like the 3M shown in the picture can be used in every flush (it is mentioned on the bottle itself).
